Bunzl Table Talkers

Project Overview:

I was hired to design a compact, yet information-rich document that could efficiently showcase Bunzl’s sustainability approach and latest updates. The unique requirement was to create a concertina-style printout, a foldable, accordion-like format that allows large amounts of information to be displayed in a small, easy-to-carry way. This document was designed specifically for Bunzl’s traveling account teams to use as a quick-reference tool, while also being versatile enough to be handed out at events to customers and suppliers, sparking conversations and engagement during meetings.

Portability:

Ensure the document is small and portable for traveling teams, making it convenient for distribution during meetings and events.

Durability & Eco-Friendly Materials:

Given the frequent handling and distribution of the document, it was important to ensure the printed version was durable yet aligned with Bunzl’s sustainability goals. I worked with print vendors to select recycled paper and environmentally friendly inks that balanced quality with Bunzl’s eco-conscious approach.

Design Process:

Content Planning & Structure:

I worked closely with Bunzl’s marketing team to identify key information that needed to be highlighted, focusing on their sustainability efforts, innovative products, and relevant company updates.

The structure was designed to ensure that the most important points could be easily absorbed at a glance, while additional details could be revealed as the document unfolded, creating a narrative flow.

Objectives:

Information Density:

Present a substantial amount of information, including Bunzl’s sustainability initiatives and company updates, in a compact, easy-to-read format.

Unique Design:

Utilise the document’s physical shape to create a concertina (accordion) fold-out design that maximizes space while maintaining a professional, visually appealing layout.

Challenges & Solutions:

Concertina (Accordion) Format:

The document was designed as a concertina fold-out, a format that allows it to be compact when closed but expansive when fully unfolded. This gave us the flexibility to fit a lot of information on both sides of the document without overwhelming the reader.

Each fold of the concertina contained a different section, such as sustainability initiatives, product highlights, or company achievements, making it easy for the user to navigate quickly.

Outcome:

The final concertina-style document was compact, visually striking, and highly functional. It allowed Bunzl’s account teams to quickly showcase the company’s latest information and sustainability initiatives in meetings or during travel, while still being easy to hand out at events.

The document served as an effective conversation starter, allowing both customers and suppliers to engage with Bunzl’s sustainability message, creating deeper dialogue and opportunities for business growth.

Its unique, foldable design and high-quality, eco-friendly materials reinforced Bunzl’s commitment to sustainability, making the document both a practical tool and a reflection of the company’s values.

Portable, Event-Ready Design:

The compact size of the document when folded ensured that it could easily fit into a pocket, bag, or folder, making it highly portable for Bunzl’s account teams during travel.

It was also designed with high-quality, eco-friendly materials to reflect Bunzl’s sustainability values and be suitable for handouts at events, trade shows, and meetings with both customers and suppliers.

Engagement:

Create a conversation starter for both customers and suppliers by featuring clear, impactful messaging and visuals related to Bunzl’s sustainability approach.

Visual & Brand Integration:

The design stayed true to Bunzl’s corporate branding, using their color palette, typography, and visual language. The result was a professional, polished piece that aligned with Bunzl’s overall brand identity.

The layout was visually engaging, using icons, infographics, and short, impactful text to communicate key points quickly, while leaving space for more detailed information to encourage conversation.

Maximising Space:

A key challenge was fitting a large amount of information into a small, foldable format without it feeling cramped or overwhelming. I solved this by using clear sections, bold headers, and concise copy, as well as employing infographics and icons to visually represent data.

Final Thoughts:

This project successfully blended design innovation with practicality, creating a compact, engaging document that delivered a large amount of information in a small, portable format. The concertina style ensured that Bunzl’s account teams had an effective tool for travel and events, while also enhancing brand engagement through sustainability-driven messaging and thoughtful design.
